About Charity Finance Group

Charity Finance Group is the charity that champions best practice in finance management in the voluntary sector.

Charity Finance Group was founded in 1987.

We are a membership organisation, and over 1,400 charities are members of CFG. Our members collectively manage over £21.1billion, which represents almost a third of the charity sector's income.

CFG’s programme of events and training enables finance professionals in the charity sector to develop essential leadership and financial management skills, develop their understanding of topical financial issues, and network and share knowledge with peers.

A culture of sharing and contributing to the wider sector, beyond the individual charities in membership, is at the heart of CFG's activities.

Charity Finance Group is also active on a number of key policy areas. We work to engage with and influence policy makers and officials, ensuring that the issues facing the charity sector are understood and accounted for by government.

We work together with other organisations, regulators and charities to input charity expertise to the regulatory process, and to develop best practice in charity management.

CFG members benefit from a variety of services to support them in their work - such as a monthly magazine, access to specialist helplines and free Members' Meetings which run across England and Wales on a regular basis.

Members are encouraged to contribute their experiences and feedback to help us represent their views to government. We also regularly produce practical, easy to understand guidance and briefings on key issues that our members need to be aware of.

How to join

Membership of CFG is open to all charities, social enterprises, NGOs and not for profit organisations. The membership is especially useful for finance directors, managers and officers, as well as operations directors, HR managers and IT professionals.

Organisations appoint a primary contact who receives important information from us about their membership, but can also appoint additional contacts who can also benefit from the membership.

Corporates can also join CFG as a subscriber. Doing so enables them to speak at and attend our events, contribute features for the magazine and much more. It's an excellent way of building relationships with charity clients, and of meeting potential clients too.
